Tips for Writing an Article for Mississauga Kids Print E-mail

SEO Search Engine Optimization is tricky stuff.  Here are some tips for writing an article for the MISSISSAUGA KIDS website that will get noticed by Google search engines for your school or business.

1. Length:  Article should be 500-800 words in length.  750 is optimum.

2. Think about key words: When parents search the internet using keywords you want them to find your article.  Key words that will help you reach your target market if you were a Montessori School would probably be: Mississauga, Montessori, School, Child, Day, Care, Childcare, Daycare, Kids.  A Dance School would have different keywords: Mississauga, Dance, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, School, Studio, Instructor might all prove useful.

At certain times other key words will work as well. For instance this past month (Mid February - Mid March) Mississauga Kids was concentrating on the following Keywords: Mississauga, Kids, March, Break, Spring Camp.)  In the coming months (Mid March - Mid June) Mississauga Kids will be focusing on keywords like: Mississauga, Kids, Easter, Passover, Spring, Summer, Camp, Mother's Day, Father's Day, School.

Think about what your target market will be searching google for and use those words and phrases in your article.  BUT don't go crazy!  Only about 10% of your article should be key words.

3. YOU are not that important.  While it is tempting to optimize your article for your organization's name it will probably do more harm than good. Most parents when doing a google search do not search for a particular business or school.  Instead use general terms like "Private Schools in Mississauga", Mississauga Music Lessons" or Mississauga Summer Camps".

4. Include a picture.  An image will draw attention to your article.  It can also "label" it in  the back end using key words that might help google find the article.

5. Write a general article that can be used more than once.  Then the article can be posted more than once.  For instance if you wrote an article about fun Montessori inspired activities you can do at home with the kids that would be able to be posted at any time.  You could also focus on a specific season "Fun Snow Play inspired by Montessori".  That could be up though out the winter. It could even use it next winter!  Parents are much more likely to read an article that gives them information they can use.  If you write that only focuses on your business they are less likely to read the article.  Your article should be editorial NOT advertorial. Your name and web link will be included at the close of the article and if they are interested they will follow through.  Soft selling is often more effective.

6. Be Timely!  If you are having an event like a Clothing Drive, or Performance it is probably best to promote that BEFORE the event.   That way everyone can all be part of the fun!  Send me the event at least 1 month ahead of time for best results.
